Duck
Hunting
 |
"Field
Mallard Hunt" |
If you
are a duck hunter you will find paradise in our back yard. Simply
put, we have some of the best duck hunting available anywhere. Bar
none. Whether the birds are using wheat fields, small water, or large
water, we are geared up to take advantage of any opportunity. Imagine
clouds of mallards and pintails cooling their afterburners over wheat
and corn stubble. How about a smorgasbord of over a dozen different
species of ducks dropping into a water spread? On the big water, bluebills,
redheads, cans, ringbills, and buffleheads race the lines as they
test our gunning skills. Northern Flight Guide Service can provide
a custom duck hunt that lets you taste the wide variety of opportunities
our area has to offer. Best times are from opener to early November.
Divers can arrive early with cold weather up north, but usual best
times are from mid October to the 15th of November. Special tundra
swan permits are also available and easy to draw. These magnificent
birds are often a special bonus while hunting ducks over water.
Snow
Goose Hunting
 |
"Late
October Snow Goose Hunt" |
Our area
is noted as one of the largest fall staging area for this magnificent,
intelligent bird. We take hunting this bird very seriously by deploying
only the very best in modern decoys. We trailer 15-20 dozen full body
decoys as our main spread. Along with the full body decoys, we at
times use and supplement silhouettes, rags, and flyers. We field hunt
snows in harvested wheat, barley, and corn. We hide by using natural
down wind cover; field blinds, or by wearing white ponchos in the
spread. Snow geese arrive by opener, but the best times are from mid
October to the 15th of November.
Canada
Goose Hunting
 |
"Giant
Honkers Combo'ed with Mallards" |
The Lake
Region produces good numbers of giant Canadian geese, and is visited
by flocks of migratory birds. We hunt in the field with Bigfoot full
body decoys and silhouettes. Early season provides the best giant
honker hunting with geese in the 10-13 lb. range. It is common to
encounter various subspecies of Canada geese throughout the season.
Most of the Canadas are hunted in the field, but at times we will
take advantage of a water spread on small water. Best times are from
opener to late October.
Sandhill
Crane Hunting
 |
"Sandhills
Over Decoys" |
If
you have never gunned Sandhills you are in for a treat. We hunt
Sandhills much like geese, thorough afternoon scouting followed
by an early morning decoy setup. This large challenging bird is
hunted over decoys in harvested cropland and gunned much like decoying
geese. This is a very smart, cunning bird that requires patience
and a steady shot. We are proud of our success and the chance to
get you on this trophy bird. Sandhills make for very good table
fare and have earned the nickname "the ribeye of the sky".
Best time for crane is from late September to mid October.
Spring
Snow Goose Hunting
 |
"Spring
Snow Goose Hunt" |
Beginning
mid February, our guides begin an all out assault on snow geese
as the birds begin their migration north. Starting in Nebraska,
our guides follow the migrating geese, continuing north as the birds
move. By mid April, many of our cornfields start filling up with
geese as the birds start concentrating within twenty miles of our
resort. Hunting opportunities usually continue into the beginning
of May, providing you with the opportunity to hunt waterfowl for
three more months. Electronic calls, fully body decoys, ATV's, and
comfortable blinds are all used to make your hunt as comfortable
and productive as possible. The spring migration can offer one of
the best opportunities to really get even with these extremely intelligent
birds.
